Goodreads list: Books for Summer

No comments:

Aaaah, summer is coming! Long days spent by the pool or the beach reading a good book and sipping drinks will soon be mine! In less than three weeks, I'm officially moving back to Montreal and I will enjoy at the same time the fact that since I'm quitting my job, I'll have some time to relax before searching for another job!

I can't wait to take walks in the old port of Montreal, go shopping for my apartment as well as catch up on unread books I accumulated for the past few months. So, I thought I'd share a list with you guys of worthy reads for summer! I chose books that are not too serious, yet fun & good ones that you can devour in only a few days (like The Fault in Our Stars guys!!) because depressive/somber books are for winter!

With that in mind, I decided to create "Goodreads List" which will feature books to read according to season, moods, etcetera. because I've always been a fan of "Book Clubs" on blogs and articles like that (but this blog is sadly not popular enough to create a book club yet, but I'm working on it!) So here is my list of what to read in summer!

1) Summer at Tiffany
I didn't read it yet, but it's definitely waiting for me on my bookshelf. It just looks simple, sweet and touching. This is a perfect book for summer!  It's the Story of Marjorie Jacobson and her best friend, Marty Garrett, who arrive fresh from the Kappa House to a Tiffany & Co. store, becoming then the first women to ever work on the sales floor in New York City, 1945.
You probably heard of the movie starring the fabulous Emma Watson and probably know it's a book. If you haven't read it yet, go run to the nearest library and buy it!  In this book, you will follow every steps of Charlie, a non-popular freshman who is shy, intelligent, socially awkward; he his a wallflower. You'll navigate through first dates and mix tapes, dramas, new friends, sex, drugs and the list goes on. You will be on a roller-coaster of emotion!
Even though this book was published in 2012, it feels like everyone's reading it in 2014. It's on my books-to-read list since it's described as a satire while being heartwarming, sharp, witty and it came from Maria Semple who is behind Arrested Development. What's not to like, seriously? ► This is the story of Bernadette Fox, who has a microsoft-guru husband and a 15 years old daughter, Bee. One day, Bernadette disappears, thus pushing her daughter to her research in an absurd world full of emails, secret correspondences and official documents.
It's LGBT month and with all the new tv series about gays and lesbians (Faking It, Orange Is the New black and the list goes on), I thought It would be a great idea to put a feel-good book about two teenage girls who fall in love despite pressure of family and school that threaten their relationship. It's cheesy, but keep in mind that It's a love story for teenagers and young adults and I assure you that even if you weren't a teenage lesbian, you'll love this book. ► Fact: This book has been banned from many school libraries and even publicly burned in Kansas City.
5) Paper Towns
Dear TFIOS fans: John Green wrote other books! Yes! You might already knew that, but in case you don't, here's one that you should totally read (they are currently making the movie adaptation, so you could totally brag later about the fact that you read the book)! John yes I call him John like he's my friend has this gift of turning a story about teens into something much more bigger than what you'd expect. Paper Towns is about how you cannot see people as who they really are.  It's a story told by Quentin, who's in love with his next-door neighbor, Margo Roth Spiegelman who's, from his point of you, amazing, mysterious and adventurous. Without giving you too much information I don't want to spoil everything, Margo goes missing and Q has to figure out where she is before it's too late. She leaves a ton of clues and every step of the way, Q finds out something he didn't knew about her, and about himself.

You guys now have everything you need to have a busy summer reading novels. Now go run to your library or be lazy and order all those books on Amazon! And if you want more summer books suggestions, follow me on GoodReads and take a look at my 'Summer List' in my Bookshelves section! #teambookworms
